Collingwood was staring down the barrel of a 0-4 start to its Premiership defence when the Brisbane Lions held them scoreless in the second quarter at the Gabba. The Magpies responded by kicking 9 goals to 4 in the second half, with the star small forward booting 3 of them to finish with a game-high 4. Elliott slotted 2 in the space of 4 minutes in the final term after the home side closed to within 9 points.
