The 2003 Select AFL XL Series was the first release by Select in 2003. 

This Series included the first update of the 1996 Hall of Fame Series with a card Hall of Fame update (40 cards) being inserted into each packet.  In addition 4 Hall of Fame Legend cards are released in the series - Coventry, Hudson, Robran, Stewart.

Additional insert sets include 2002 All Australian team (22), 2002 Medal Winners (5), Premiership Predictors (16) and Rookie Expectations (16).  Rookie Expectations are different to the Draft Pick Signature Series.  Rookie Expectations feature players from Round 2 of the 2002 National Draft - picks 17 to 32.

In terms of autographed cards, there are Draft Pick Signatures (16) which includes Brendan Goddard and Daniel Wells.  There are also four XL Signature Series cards Signature featuring John Nicholls, Barrie Robran, Simon Black and Nathan Buckley and are all limited to 100 cards only.

The series also features the Wayne Carey Fresh Ink card inserted in every 10 boxes and limited to 800 cards.

*Please note there are 6 Legend cards in total featuring 4 Hall of Fame Legends and 2 Select Legend within the series with one Legend card inserted every box.

Two 300 Game player cards, Bernie Quinlan and John Rantall appear as case cards in this series. Neither has an autographed version.

The XL Series release was limited to 666 cases / 8,000 boxes and is SOLD OUT.
